The Milk Market

The Milk Market is located in the heart of Limerick City. It is an all-weather, all year round market space, accommodating major markets on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; occasional markets at other times; a new Food Pavilion and events.

History:

The Market Trustees were established in 1852. They owned and operated a number of markets within the city centre of Limerick. There are two remaining historic market sites:

  • The Milk Market
  • The Potato Market (Merchants Quay, currently operating as a Carpark)

The foundations of the Limerick City Walls surround the Milk Market and it is believed that Markets can be traced as far back as the 12th century in the area surrounding the Limerick Milk Market, with Limerick a key trading port and the Milk Market based at Watergate of the historic Limerick Wall.
